Join this webinar to get an overview of the Criminal Finances Act 2017.

The Criminal Finances Bill 2017 is expected to receive Royal Assent in Spring 2017 and many of the measures in the Bill will give law enforcement agencies the power to recover proceeds of crime, tackle money laundering and corruption and counter terrorist financing to combat money laundering and tax evasion.

What are the key changes? what will it mean for my firm? what will it mean for my clients? will our money-laundering procedures have to change? This timely webinar will provide members with a good understanding of how the new Criminal Finances Act will operate and the best way in which to protect your and your clients.

Key changes relevant to solicitors and their clients include the following:

Topics

  • Proposals creating a power to extend the moratorium period and to ask for further information following a SAR (suspicious activity report).
  • The extension of corporate liability (along the lines of the Bribery Act 2010) to a corporate failure to prevent the facilitation of tax evasion.
  • The introduction of unexplained wealth orders to allow law enforcement agencies to investigate and seize property from a person, without needing to prove serious criminality, where there are reasonable grounds to suspect that the person’s known lawful income would have been insufficient to obtain that property.
