This event took place 13 March 2024, including a welcome from Nick Emmerson, president of the Law Society.

The panel discussion was split into two parts:

1. Tax and contentious probate litigation

Tax issues are often central when compromising contentious probate and trust disputes whether before or during litigation.

Our speakers discussed the common tax issues which need to be considered and the pitfalls to avoid, particularly when engaging in alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

2. Costs and litigation

Our speakers considered how estates can mitigate costs risk in relation to contentious probate and trust litigation. They also considered when the will drafter may be brought into litigation and made liable for costs.

The seminar was followed by networking and sandwiches.
