Message from your product managerDear Section member, In November 2014, following a vote by the Law Society’s Membership Board, the relationship between the Law Society’s Section committees and the Society changed, with the aim of delivering better defined roles and responsibilities to provide an enhanced, more consistent and engaged service to members across all Communities (Sections and Divisions). Simon Leney, Section chair, briefly touched on these plans in his Comment for the March 2014 edition of PS. Each Section now has a dedicated team to support it, working with the Section committee to deliver a more relevant and supportive service. We will all work together using a three-year business plan framework to measure success and identify opportunities for improvements for members in their professional lives. Law Society publishes new DoLS guidanceThe Law Society has issued comprehensive guidance on the law relating to the deprivation of liberty safeguards (DoLS). The guidance aims to help solicitors and frontline health and social care professionals identify when a deprivation of liberty may be occurring in a number of health and care settings. Additional ISA allowance for surviving spouseThe government is giving an additional ISA allowance to the surviving spouse or civil partner of a deceased ISA holder from 6 April 2015. HMRC has also updated its draft guidance for ISA managers.
