The Commons Justice Committee has called on the Law Commission to investigate whether the law relating to manorial rights needs to be reformed. MPs have recommended that landowners claiming manorial rights should no longer be able to do so through unilateral notices. The committee also heard evidence of other considerable problems with the registration process, in particular Land Registry’s notifications to owners, and the burden of proof of the validity of claims, which falls disproportionately on the landowner.
