The Law Management Section committee currently has four vacancies, with applications closing on 18 April 2017. Current committee member Ian Hopkins explains why he joined, how it’s benefitted him and his firm, and how the committee supports Section members
The Law Management Section is a champion of forward-thinking management, groundbreaking technology and strategic planning, to help our members to achieve success in their law firms – this inspirational mix is why I joined the committee in the first place.
Our current committee has a varied mix of accountants, management consultants and practising lawyers, which provides a rounded and extremely knowledgeable circle of experts who frequently share examples of best practice.
I’ve been part of the committee for several years and feel very much part of the team. By having the opportunity to bounce ideas off other law firm chief executives and managers from across England and Wales in complete confidence – all of whom have a wealth of experience and expertise in law firm management – has also proved invaluable when helping to shape B P Collins’ strategy to grow our turnover, maintain our status as a great place to work, and constantly improve the service we give to clients. Membership is also an excellent way to raise the profile of your firm.
Membership of the committee also provides essential networking opportunities through the many conferences and seminars on offer, which are typically led by commercially minded, people-focused and technologically savvy thought leaders from the business sector. Every event is firmly dedicated to upskilling law firm executives.
Finally, I also personally feel that I am giving something back. I have a good few years of experience behind me, and feel equipped to impart some (hopefully!) useful advice to smaller law firms in order to help them to compete in an increasingly demanding market.
