Law Management Section chair Ann Harrison looks back at a busy spring for the Section, including our annual conference, the publication of our new Financial Benchmarking Survey, and a redesign of our magazine
Did I see you at the Section’s annual conference a few weeks ago? If not, then you missed a very successful event.
Readers who attended our 2018 annual conference will remember that the theme was “managing in uncertain times” – we were all concerned about the impact of Brexit and what effect this would have on the economy, and thus on our firms. It feels a bit like Groundhog Day, because here we are 12 months on, still worrying about Brexit and its impact on the economy! However, our 2019 conference took a slightly more upbeat view, taking as its theme “success in an ever-changing world”. Our view is more upbeat because, as our Financial Benchmarking Survey shows, there is a good spirit within the profession, and overall, law firms are thriving and growing – which is a very positive message.
Overall, law firms are thriving and growing
For more on the event, read the Law Society Gazette report.
The conference was one of the highlights of the year. Keep an eye out for the flyers for our 2020 conference! In the meantime, you can book onto our Finance and Business Forum, being held in Chancery Lane on 6 November, which promises to be another not-to-be-missed event for all law firm managers.
Have you downloaded your copy of our Financial Benchmarking Survey 2019 yet? If not, please do so – you can find it on our website, and this year, it’s absolutely free! 210 firms contributed, making it one of the largest and most in-depth studies of the health of our profession. It’s a very useful tool to measure your own firm’s performance in a whole range of areas.
We continue the theme of interesting content on topics relevant to our members in this edition of Managing for Success. We have articles on everything from emotional intelligence to innovation, and from legal design to career options for senior solicitors. We aim to bring you up-to-date news and expertise in all areas relevant to the management of law firms and their people, so please do let the editor, Alice Trouncer, know if you have any ideas or feedback. You may also have spotted that we’ve updated our design for this edition, so let her know if you have any feedback on that, too!
I hope you find something in this edition which strikes a chord with you, and my best wishes for the summer to you all.
