This two-hour seminar will cover essential CPD requirements for Irish PC holders, with a particular focus on the regulatory element of Irish professional development.
The Competition Section of the Law Society is conscious that a large number of UK-based solicitors now hold Irish Practising Certificates and/or are admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in Ireland. Accordingly, those solicitors who hold Practising Certificates are required to comply with specific Irish CPD requirements.
In order to assist those solicitors, and in response to various requests from the Competition Section’s membership, the Section will run a two-hour seminar, covering a number of topics including anti-money laundering.
The event will be held at the Law Society and facilitated by Irish law firm Mason Hayes & Curran.
Speakers:
Paul Egan
Paul will present an overview of the regulation of Irish‐registered solicitors, with a focus on complaints against solicitors and the complaints process.
Paul Egan is Of Counsel with Mason Hayes & Curran, having been a partner for 30 years and former Chair of its Corporate department. Paul’s practice is in transactional and governance matters for public companies. He is a member of the Irish Takeover Panel and the statutory Company Law Review Group. He is an author and lecturer on company law and securities law. He has also presented to the Irish Parliament’s Justice Committee on whistleblower legislation. He was first elected to the Council of the Law Society of Ireland in 2011 and since 2016 has been Chair of its Complaints and Client Relations Committee.
Margaret Gray BL
Margaret will speak on privilege/rights of audience before the EU courts.
Margaret is a barrister specialising in commercial, public and EU law, practising from Brick Court Chambers, and at the Irish and Northern Irish Bars. She has argued over 75 cases at the EU Court of Justice. Margaret advises and acts across the full range of competition law matters and is consistently ranked in the Legal Directories as a leading junior in EU, Competition, Public and Administrative, and Public Procurement Law.
