The Law Society is concerned with the treatment of Abdolfattah Soltani, Hootan Dolati and Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, currently held at Evin Prison, Tehran, particularly following the reported violence in Section 350 on 17 April, 2014.

We understand that Abdolfattah Soltani, a prominent human rights lawyer, was arrested on 10 September 2011 and is serving 13 years on appeal for charges including co-founding the Defenders of Human Rights Center and accepting the 2009 Nuremberg Human Rights Award. Abdolfattah Soltani, along with other prisoners, went on hunger strike to protest the lack of medical care, as well as the authorities’ refusal to grant medical leave to some prisoners to receive specialised treatment outside prison. He has been imprisoned solely for the peaceful exercise of his right to freedom of expression and is therefore a prisoner of conscience and for carrying out his duties as a lawyer.
