UK Lawyers in Brussels: Reflections from the General Court, Fondation Universitaire, Wednesday 7 October 2026

Fondation Universitaire

The Law Society of England and Wales, in collaboration with Euclid Law, hosted an evening reception at the Fondation Universitaire for members of the UK‑qualified legal community based in Brussels.

The programme opened with remarks from Sarah Long, member of the Competition Section Advisory Committee who introduced our speaker, Judge Steven Verschuur of the General Court of the European Union. Steven shared reflections on his experience within the EU judicial system and offered insights into themes relevant to UK‑linked practitioners working in Brussels and across Europe. Drawing on two decades of practice in Belgium and the Netherlands, Judge Verschuur discussed developments across key areas of EU law including competition, State aid, trade, public procurement and restrictive measures.

The event also provided an opportunity for the Competition Section to reconnect in person with the UK legal community in Brussels. Following the opening remarks, attendees joined colleagues from across the Brussels legal sector for a drinks reception and informal networking.
