We are looking for experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic legal professionals to share their expertise and help us develop our annual events programme for competition law practitioners.   

The Competition Law Section promotes knowledge and awareness of competition law developments and addresses current issues and challenges practitioners are facing. The section is a forum to connect with peers, exchange ideas, support each other and stay up to date with the latest developments in competition law. 

What do committee members do? 

The role of committee members is to: 

  • Assist Law Society staff to design, deliver and disseminate content such as events, webinars and articles  

  • Utilise their legal subject matter knowledge and networks  

  • Speak at events, chair meetings and events, and present to large audiences 

As a committee member you will have the opportunity to:   

  • Influence, inform and shape our support to members  

  • Showcase your knowledge and expertise and raise your profile amongst the Law Society’s 200,000 members   

  • Expand your professional network and connections  

  • Work closely with knowledgeable and enthusiastic peers and staff  

Who are we looking for? 

We’d like to hear from competition, antitrust, and international trade lawyers from firms and in-house departments across England and Wales. We are looking for either transactional or litigation competition law practitioners, as well as knowledge management lawyers. We are also interested to hear from academics working in competition law, and from regulators in the area.  

We welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates who have: 

  • sound knowledge and understanding of the key issues and challenges in their area of expertise 

  • the experience and personal drive to deliver support and offer innovative ideas 

  • commitment to being of service to the legal community 

The time commitment is roughly equivalent to half an hour per week, spread out across the year. 

The committee aims to meet quarterly to progress the Section programme of activities. In addition, committee members take part in virtual working groups for various projects related to Section outputs, such as planning conferences and online events. 

Meetings primarily take place online. Up to two committee meetings per year could be hybrid meetings, with some committee members attending in-person at the Law Society in London. 

Reasonable expenses are reimbursed according to the Law Society’s expenses policy. 

Appointments to the committee commence from 1 November 2023. 

A committee members’ first term is up to three years. Appointments for a further three-year term can be considered, up to a maximum of six years of service.

Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview. Interviews are likely to take place between 12-30 June 2023.
