In an intervention letter, the Law Society expresses its concern for the detention and life threats received by the prosecutor Orlando Lopez in Guatemala. Mr. Lopez was detained on the basis of having allegedly hit a man while driving, which apparentlyled to the death of the unknown man. Furthermore, the Law Society is concerned that the repeated accusations brought by the Foundation Against Terrorism against Mr. Lopez (who received similar accusations in 2014 and 2015) added to his recent detention may represent an effort to prevent Mr. Lopez to carry out his professional duties as a prosecutor.
