On 15 March 2017, the Law Society participated in an NGO meeting with the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights.

The High Commissioner referred to the “great pressure” that the UN Human Rights system is under and the challenges faced when seeking implementation of measures announced to the Human Rights Council.

In a separate meeting that took place on 31 March 2017 with the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, the Law Society asked his attention for the situation of lawyers in Turkey, China, and Cameroon. With regard to the latter, the Law Society stated its concern over the jurisdiction of military tribunals over civilians in the case of the lawyer Felix Agbor Balla and others, who face the death penalty on charges of secession and terrorism.
