The Law Society has a wealth of information on how to become a solicitor and developing your career, including:
- Becoming a solicitor - routes to qualification and membership of the profession
- Becoming a judge - information and support for careers in the judiciary.
- Diversity Access Scheme - a scheme to increase social diversity in the legal profession by supporting promising entrants from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The Solicitors Qualifying Exam
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) is changing the solicitor qualification process with the proposed introduction of a centralised Solicitors Qualification Exam (SQE) in 2020. This is a major fundamental review of the qualification system. The JLD has published a statement setting out the JLD’s concerns about the SRA proposals for the SQE and details of the representations it has made to date.
Becoming a solicitor – JLD presentation for law students
Local JLD groups often give presentations at their local university law school to undergraduate law students interested in becoming a solicitor. To assist them the JLD has produced a set of powerpoint slides setting out the various routes to qualification and including information about finding a training contract.
