Qatar is one of the richest countries in the Gulf. Qatar's national income primarily derives from oil and natural gas exports. In 2006, it became the largest exporter of LNG in the world. Together, revenues from the oil and natural gas sectors amount to 60 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). They are simultaneously seeking to stimulate the private sector and develop a "knowledge economy".
