Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Kazakhstan established a railway consortium to ensure smooth movement of Chinese goods to Europe via the Trans-Caspian International Transport route.

The first test container train, moving along the Trans-Caspian international transport route from Ukraine to China departed from Baku International Sea Trade Port to Kazakh Aktau Port in January 2016. Regular railway trips are planned to be launched on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route in 2016. The Trans-Caspian route has the potential to become attractive and profitable for consignors from European countries and will transport approximately 300,000-400,000 containers by 2020.
