The International Department recently teamed up with the British Chilean Chamber of Commerce (Britcham) to deliver events in both Santiago and London with the aim of developing connections between Chilean and British law firms.

A friendship agreement on Thursday 12 May marked the culmination of the two events which will facilitate a deepening of contact and understanding between the two associations, and reinforce a mutual commitment to the public interest, the rule of law, and the highest professional standards. The agreement was signed by Stephen Denyer, Director of Strategic Relationships for the Law Society, and Iganacio Saavedra Moreno, Chairman of Britcham.

The market briefing at the Law Society’s offices in Chancery Lane ran concurrently with the BritCham Chile Day programme in London. The focus was on opportunities in Chile’s growth sectors as well as examining the energy sector and projects currently being explored within the region. Delegates were also provided with an overview of the legal system, the liberalised and open market foreign lawyers enjoy and the courts system.

Stephen Denyer chaired the session which included BritCham’s Business Development Manager, Oliver Moss and past president of the Chamber, Guillermo Morales  Approximately 40 delegates attended for both the panel discussion and networking including a number of our members and Chilean lawyers.
