President Simon Davis met with the Indian Ministry of Law and Justice delegation on 25 February. They were joined by Mickael Laurans, head of international, Stephen Denyer, director of strategic relationships, Donna Evans, international policy manager, and Preeti Sawhney, international policy adviser.
The meeting was an opportunity to collaborate with the Indian profession and restate our willingness to work with them on matters of mutual interest.
Our main focus was to understand the Ministry of Law and Justice’s priorities for engaging with us and understand the potential synergies between our legal professions. It also provided a platform to build relationships with the law secretary of India, Anoop Kumar Mendiratta, and accompanying joint secretaries from the Indian ministry.
Officials from the British High Commission in New Delhi, senior Law Society members leading on India, and a representative from the UK Ministry of Justice also participated in the discussion. They provided valuable input into our efforts opening up India’s legal services market.
