HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is now able to receive payment for stamp duty land tax (SDLT) by debit or credit card, using a new online payment service.
The service was introduced on 19 May 2015, and allows customers to complete their payment on the online system.
You will need your Unique Transaction Reference Number (UTRN) found on the electronic SDLT5 certificate or the paper SDLT return, to make the payment. An email confirmation will be sent once the payment has been made.
The new service is now available on GOV.UK:
Other payment methods such as CHAPS, online or telephone banking and cheques through the post will still be accepted. Your payment should reach HMRC on the last working day before the deadline if it falls on a weekend or bank holiday.
