The Law Society Lbrary has many specialist resources available to property practitioners. You don’t even have to be in London to use the library.

1. Textbooks and looseleafs

The library collection includes textbooks and looseleafs covering property topics such as boundaries, conveyancing and landlord and tenant. The standard texts, such as Woodfall’s Law of Landlord and Tenant , are supplemented by many more specialist titles. To get an idea of the range of books available click on the links below. If you’re looking for a particular title, you can search Knowledge Base , our library catalogue or simply give us a call.

Real property

If you are doing historical research, from last year to 100 years ago, we never throw away previous editions. Our most used old edition property books are Silverman’s Conveyancing Handbooks , which we have back to the first edition in 1992.

2. Precedents

We hold thousands of precedents, forms and templates and we can search on your behalf to find a precedent to suit your requirements. Copies can be ordered through our document delivery service, Lawdocs . For example, if you need a draft break clause; an agreement for sale to a sitting tenant or a licence to occupy, just ask us to search for you.

3. Research service

As mentioned above, library staff undertake research on your behalf. For each new enquiry the first 30 minutes are free; and we can complete most enquiries within this time. The type of research we do is wide and varied – precedents, case law, specific points of law, historical research on law firms and much more. For example, if you need commentary about contaminated land and whose responsibility it is, we will check our books and subscription databases and let you know what we find.

4. Journals and law reports

We subscribe to numerous journals and law reports to help you stay up to date. Of particular interest may be the following titles (our holdings are in brackets). We also hold many other, older series, should you need historical material.
