The Department for Business, Innovations & Skills (BIS) has launched a public consultation on moving the operations of Land Registry into the private sector. The consultation ends on 26 May 2016.

The chancellor announced in the autumn statement 2015 and the recent budget that government would consult on proposals to move the operations of Land Registry into the private sector.

The government has said that the status quo would not deliver the desired culture change and incentivisation to drive transformation, nor would it meet the requirement of maximising capital receipt.

The Law Society is preparing a response.
