The Law Society is pleased to confirm that we are currently working with members to develop proposals for a new accreditation scheme focusing on the protection of vulnerable clients and the Mental Capacity Act.

The decision to investigate the viability of a scheme follows a number of high profile judgments, recent amendments to the Court of Protection rules, and the positive results received from qualitative research carried out with members during March 2015.

The scheme would provide assurance of the knowledge and expertise of those practitioners who represent vulnerable clients in the Court of Protection, notably the elderly and those lacking mental capacity.

The Law Society will keep menbers of the Private Client Section up to date with the developments on the scheme, and would like to thank those members who took part in the research.
