The Law Society and the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) are working together to manage the cost of delivering its work to the profession.
The plan for 2019/20 is that the individual practising fee (PC fee) will be £278, staying at the same level as last year.
This is the third successive year the individual fee has remained the same. Since 2014 the fee has gone down by 28%.
The PC fee includes levies for the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, the Legal Services Board, the Financial Conduct Authority (to focus on money laundering activity), and the Legal Ombudsman.
The Law Society and the SRA consult the profession every year about the PC fee and how it is split between regulation, public interest and representation as part of its annual reporting and planning.
In this consultation they explain their different roles, present some of the things they achieved last year, explain their draft budget and financial plans for 1 November 2019 to 31 October 2020, and ask for your views.
Complete the short survey by midnight on 28 June and share your views on the work that your fee supports.
