The Law Society is the independent professional body for solicitors, and represents and supports its members, promoting the highest professional standards and the rule of law.
The Law Society is governed by its Council, set up under its Royal Charter. The Council agrees the strategic direction of the Society’s work, including the annual business plan and budget, changes to Law Society policy and rules, and the focus of our efforts on behalf of our diverse membership.
The Junior Lawyers Division (JLD) has three representatives on the Law Society Council whose role is to support the JLD by representing junior lawyers’ interests on the Council. This covers the full spectrum of the JLD membership – LPC students, trainees and solicitors up to five years qualified. The three JLD seats are allocated as follows:
- LPC students and trainees: one seat / two year term.
- Solicitors up to five years qualified: two seats / four year terms
