The Law Society, in partnership with the Bar Council of England and Wales, Barra Mexicana, ANADE, INCAM, and the Mexican Chamber of Commerce in Great Britian (MexCC,), supported by the British Embassy in Mexico, organised the first ever English Law Week in Mexico City, Mexico, from 3 to 5 September.

The event comprised of a two-day conference, a networking reception at the British Ambassador’s Residence, and a roundtable discussion on Mexico’s transformation to an adversarial system.

Over 100 delegates attended the event, across the three days to network and hear discussions on various areas of English law.

During the conference, panels of experts from the UK and Mexico presented discussions on the following topics:

  • Brexit
  • Energy
  • Maritime/Shipping Law
  • International Arbitration
  • Latest legal developments in Fintech
  • Financing in London
  • Combating corruption
  • Ethics in the profession

The event presented a great opportunity to further develop legal links and business between both countries and strengthen the relationship between practitioners from both jurisdictions. It also offered a great forum in which to promote the use of English Law and the expertise of our members.
