Li is a renowned lawyer taking up cases of wrongful convictions and representing vulnerable groups in China. His license was revoked on 6 August 2019 after he had published posts on social media platform Weibo. The Chinese authorities deemed these posts to be slandering the Justice Bureau and provoking discontentment against the Party.
