Bhavisha Mistry, vice-chair of the In-house Division Committee, explains what you can expect from the Division in 2019.
On behalf of the In-house Division Committee, I would like to welcome you into the new year!
I am very excited about 2019. As ever, we have lots of activities and events planned. We’ve got our annual conference on 18-19 June – a must for in-house counsel at all levels. It’s a fabulous opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of relevant topics, learn new skills (including soft skills, which I’m passionate about) and, most of all, a chance to network with your peers!
We will also be holding regular informal meet-ups in the regions. Last year, we held several in Manchester and London. We’re looking to expand this year into Birmingham and other regions – if you’re interested in coming along or even helping to set one up in your area, please let us know! It’s a relaxed place for you to go and vent, innovate or simply meet like-minded people (something I found incredibly helpful, especially when I was acting as a sole counsel).
We will continue to deliver articles on hot topics in this magazine, predominantly written by in-house counsel – managing risk and liability, influencing and persuading and, of course, Brexit! For a full list of all events planned so far, see our 2018/19 In-house Division engagement programme.
Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Committee to ask for any feedback or suggestions on how you feel the Law Society can help to support you as a member of the in-house community. Committee members are all practising in-house lawyers and our input comes from our own experiences – in private, public and not-for-profit organisations – so we hope you find the support the Division provides is authentic and truly useful. Contact the Division product manager, Priya Krishnan, if you have any ideas or if you want to get involved.
Wishing you a prosperous year ahead,
for and on behalf of the In-house Division Committee
