The Law Society is concerned about the travel restrictions imposed against the human rights defender Khurram Parvez in India. In September 2016 Mr. Parvez was prevented from travelling to Geneva, where he had planned to attend a UN Human Rights Council session. After the travel ban, Mr. Parvez was also detained under “preventive detention” on the grounds of violence incitment in the Kashmir region. The Law Society respectfully urged the Government of India to release Mr. Parvez from detention and to ensure that all human rights defenders and lawyers are able to carry out their professional duties without intimidation, threats or harassment of any kind.
