The Law Society has written to President Hassan Rouhani seeking his urgent attention to the situation of juvenile offender Saman Naseem.

It has been reported that, Saman Naseem was arrested in July 2011 following a clash between the Revolutionary Guards and the Kurdish armed opposition group Party For Free Life of Kurdistan (“PJAK”), of which Naseem was purportedly a member. We understand that Naseem’s arrest was on the grounds of his alleged involvement in the above activities. Naseem was 17 years of age at the time of his arrest.

It has been widely reported that while in detention, Naseem was subjected to grave abuses and torture and held incommunicado.
