The Law Society is deeply concerned for the welfare of Mrs Gladys Lanza, an internationally respected human rights defender, after learning that in recent weeks she has been subjected to intimidation and harassment. Mrs Lanza is Coordinator of the Movimiento de Mujeres por la Paz Visitacion Padilla (Honduran Women’s Committee for Peace Visitación Padilla) whose work addresses gender violence and women’s participation in public life as well as advocating for democracy and human rights in Honduras. Although a non-lawyer, Mrs Lanza’s work contributes to the work of lawyers in promoting human rights and the rule of law.
