Japan

Japan has a civil law system which is based on Germany’s legal system. Given that it is one of the world’s largest economies, Japan has a relatively small legal profession which in 2007 numbered 23,133 lawyers. Its legal market is centred in Tokyo, where all of the top Japanese law firms and Japan's highest court are located.
