We are pleased to announce that the sixth edition of the British-Brazilian Young Lawyers’ Exchange Programme will be running in April 2019, and the applications for Latin American Lawyers have now opened!

The exchange programme is organised by the Law Society and Bar Council of England and Wales, with support from the BPP University, Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil (OAB), Lex Anglo-Brasil, Ilustre Y Nacional Colegio De Abogados De Mexico (INCAM), The Asociación Nacional De Abogados De Empresa (ANADE), Barra Mexicana De Abogados, Colegio De Abogados (BMA), Chamber of Legal Services of the Colombian National Business Association, and the British Colombian Chamber of Commerce (BCCC).

The programme began in November 2014 when 10 Brazilian lawyers participated in a four-week programme in London. Two groups of young British lawyers have since travelled to Brazil for programmes in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and a further group of Brazilian lawyers visited London in 2016.

We are pleased to be permanently extending the scheme to Mexican and Colombian lawyers, in addition to Brazilian lawyers.

The 3-week London programme will take place from 29 April - 17 May 2019. Between 10 to 15 lawyers will be selected to participate in the London-leg. The scheme includes:

  • a short bespoke academic programme at BPP University;
  • a series of legal seminars and vocational training sessions;
  • placements in barristers’ chambers and a solicitors’ firm;
  • visits to key legal institutions including courts; and
  • a social and networking programme.
