The Law Society’s international team were invited to attend the farewell reception for Rob Fenn, Head of the Human Rights and Democracy Department (HRDD) at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, who after three years in this post, will be taking up a new role as Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia.

This was also a good opportunity to meet the new Head of HRDD, Richard Jones, who reiterated the FCO’s commitment to uphold the rule of law, to defend human rights and to promote democracy around the globe. He also confirmed the HRDD’s commitment to collaborate with the Law Society and other stakeholders.

Prior to taking up this post, Richard Jones was Ambassador of the European Union to Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein, Deputy Head of Mission and Political Counsellor to the UK Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels and British Consul-General in Basra (Iraq).

The reception was attended by FCO staff, which included the Deputy Head of HRDD Steven Fisher, as well as representatives of several NGOs such as Amnesty International, Article 19, and OutRight Action International. The Coordinator of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Human Rights, Nicole Piche, and the new Director of UNFPA in the UK, Matt Jackson, were also present at this event.
