Two outstanding trainee solicitors were recognised for their exceptional essay-writing skills in this year’s Horsfall Turner essay competition:
- First prize of £1,000 went to Anne Eckenroth, a trainee solicitor at Herbert Smith Freehills LLP
- Highly commended prizes of £250 went to Emile Abdul-Wahab at Ashurst LLP
Professor Carl Baudenbacher, president of the EFTA Court and Omar Shah, partner, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP and chair of the Competition Section committee awarded the winners of the essay prize. You can download the winning essays below.

The Horsfall Turner essay question for 2017 was:
‘What challenges does the digital economy present for the development of antitrust law?’
The Horsfall Turner essay prize is a prestigious award given to the best essay submission on a given topic every year. It is designed to encourage young lawyers to engage with competition and European law. Many see this as a great way to distinguish themselves amongst their peers and help them grow their career.
