In a statement on 11 January 2021, the Ministry of Justice announced that launch of the new portal for whiplash claims has been pushed back to May 2021.

The changes to whiplash claims and the increase in the small claims limit were originally planned for April 2020. However, in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the government announced that it would delay this – first to August 2020, and then to April 2021.

The delay until to April 2021 was to allow more time to prepare for the changes, including putting in place changes to the Civil Procedure Rules.

The additional one-month delay is to give businesses more time to prepare for the changes to how small road traffic personal injury claims are managed.
