On 6 April 2020, a temporary Insolvency Practice Direction (IPD) came into force to help courts respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The IPD aims to reduce the need for court users to attend in person, and to manage issues arising from limited staff and resources.

It will remain in force until 1 October, and covers:

  • notices for out-of-court appointments
  • remote hearings
  • winding-up and bankruptcy petitions
  • other insolvency hearings
  • remote swearing of statutory declarations.

It supplements the existing Practice Direction on insolvency proceedings, from July 2018.
