The Law Society hosted a successful roundtable discussion on 13 April 2015 which brought together 30 solicitors from over 15 city law firms, leading regional firms, as we ll as in-house counsel and law students. All of whom have a Chinese background or who are interested in developing their China practice.
The discussions were very lively and informative. There was a fantastic buzz in the room as the group worked together to develop ways to encourage continued engagement within the profession, led by Ruihua Wang of Linklaters LLP.
Donna Evans, International Policy Adviser (North Asia & Pacific) at the Law Society provided an introduction to the Law Society’s international work and the ways in which the Law Society supports its members. Xiaojiu Zhu talked about recent initiatives of the UK Society of Chinese Lawyers - an established network which has been active for a number of years.
The group worked in small groups to identify common interests, and ways to support each other through mentorship programmes, sharing of expertise and how to build international networks. The feed back was excellent which we hope will lead to useful and insightful initiatives coming up in the near future.
If you are looking to develop your China practice or would like to know more about our UK-China work please do contact Donna.Evans@lawsociety.org.uk . Coming up we will be hosting a delegation of Chinese law firms from Beijing and Shenzhen at the Law Society’s International Marketplace annual conference. If you would like to meet with them please sign up - the deadline for early bird rate expires on 15 May 2015!
