The Brazilian Bar has voted to uphold the current rules for foreign law firms operating in Brazil. After a year long debate there was a unanimous decision from the Federal Council of the Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil (OAB).

OAB rule 91/2000 permits foreign law firms to register with the OAB and provide legal advice on home country and international law. It does not allow firms to enter in to partnership with or employ Brazilian lawyers.
