Data published in the Law Society / Legal Monitor City Legal Index shows that growth in the number of deals facilitated by the top 50 UK City law firms has slowed. The figures also show that the average value of deals has continued to fall. The main findings are as follows:
Deals increased by 7.1% in January to June 2014 compared with the same period a year earlier, and compared with 12.4% growth in 2013.
The main source of slowdown was in the finance and banking and fund / investment industries. Growth in the real estate, construction and manufacturing industries slowed from the high rates of growth in 2013.
Deals in the technology, media and telecoms and energy and utilities industries continued to grow significantly.
