The Law Society partnered with PILnet and Latin Lawyer to host a roundtable discussion on pro bono in the Americas as part of National Pro Bono Week and PILnet’s annual European Pro Bono Forum.
Representatives from law firms and pro bono clearing houses in Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Colombia discussed the pro bono movement in the Americas opportunities to better work together.
Speaking at the event, Law Society president Andrew Caplen said ”I believe access to justice is one of, if not the, most important legal principle out there. We hear a lot about the Rule of Law, about equality before the courts, but what use is any of that if people cannot access the courts in the first place?
“We know that the pro bono work lawyers around the world do seriously helps some of the most disadvantaged and it’s a tradition for which we should be incredibly proud.”
