The Law Society participated in the Lord Mayor’s visit to Baku from 31 May to 2 June. The visit offered a great opportunity for business delegations to get insight into the world of influencers and key decision-makers in a regional setting. The programme focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in banking, asset management, insurance, Public Private Partnership (PPP), maritime, business services as well as the involvement of the legal services sector in all of the relevant areas of economic cooperation.
The Law Society organised a session on Best Practice in Corporate Law as part of the London Stock Exchange Group Financial Markets Forum. The session was moderated by Sergei Ostrovsky from Ashurst, with Francis Fitzherbert-Brockholes from White & Case and Andrew Oldland QC from Michelmores speaking on the panel alongside two Azeri lawyers (Farhad Mirzayev, BM Morrison Partners and Ismail Askerov, MGB Law Offices). The event was well attended and very engaged audience with lots of questions. The verbal feedback from speakers and guest on the session was positive. There was a clear interest from the audience on the need for good corporate governance in Azeri companies and businesses.
