How can professional executors trace old life insurance policies and pensions?

My firm is acting as professional executor and I am in the process of collecting in the assets of the estate.  Amongst the papers I have gone through I have found an old schedule of assets which suggests that the deceased held a number of pensions and old life insurance policies during his lifetime. Can you offer guidance on what additional steps I can take to try and trace these old life insurance policies and pensions?

For a fee of £25.00 you can carry out a search for old pensions, shareholdings and life insurance policies with the Unclaimed Assets Register (UAR).

HM Government runs a free Pension Tracing Service. You can telephone the Pension Tracing Service on 0345 6002 537 or write to them at The Pension Service 9, Mail Handling Site A, Wolverhampton WV98 1LU.

You may also wish to register your search at www.pensiontracingservice.com. This is a private entity which offers a free search facility financed by the Association of Independent Financial Advisers. You can search by telephone on 0800 1223 170 or submit a written search request to The Pension Tracing Service.com, Glebe House, Boothen Old Road, Staffordshire ST4 4EZ.
