Private Client Section

Dear Private Client Section member,

In November 2014, following a vote by the Law Society’s Membership Board, the relationship between the Law Society’s Section committees and the Society changed. This was with the aim of delivering better defined roles and responsibilities to provide an enhanced, more consistent and engaged service to members across all Communities (Sections and Divisions). Simon Leney, Section chair, briefly touched on these plans in his Comment for the March 2014 edition of PS.

Each Section now has a dedicated team to support it, working with the Section committee to deliver a more relevant and supportive service. We will work together, using a three-year business plan framework to measure success and identify opportunities for improvements for members in their professional lives.

Building on what has been a highly successful 16 years since the Section’s foundation, members may have noticed some key changes.

  • The Private Client Section executive committee is now an advisory committee.
  • The Section Constitution has been replaced by a standard protocol across all the Law Society’s Communities (seven Sections and six Divisions).
  • The Section now has a product manager responsible for championing members’ needs across the Law Society and beyond, developing the Section using business management skills – you might have met me at one of our Section events.
  • All the Division and Section chairs now meet regularly with the Law Society to share success stories across the Communities.
  • The Private Client Section AGM, normally held at the annual conference, will now be renamed as a Section members meeting. At the meeting, there will be a chair’s report and, as always, we will be asking members for feedback about how we can better develop our services.
