Jane has been a member of LDD since studying the GDL and LPC at the College of Law in York as a mature student in 2005. She has been a member of the LDD Executive since 2008, first as Honorary Secretary, and then as Deputy Vice-Chair in 2013.
Jane set up and runs the LDD Facebook and Linkedin group page, which was a great leap forward for LDD, and has given LDD an important presence in the world of social media and helped increase membership and attendance at LDD conferences. She is also the LDD representative to the JLD National Committee .
In the coming year, Jane will work with the other LDD officers to forge further links with law firms to create more work placements and opportunities for both students and qualified members.
Yasmin Sheikh is a Disability Consultant, coach and trainer. She helps organisations perform more effectively and with confidence. One of her clients is international law firm, Clyde & Co LLP where she worked as a lawyer for 10 years. Yasmin is also Vice-Chair of the Lawyers with Disabilities Division.
David qualified as a solicitor in 1976 and spent most of his 30-year working career in local government service, specialising in litigation. In 2000, he re-qualified with a certificate to teach in higher education, and he is now preparing for a regular teaching session with the armed forces.
He has been a member of the LDD since its launch as the Group for Solicitors with Disabilities in 1989. He has been its Law Society Council representative since 2001, responsible for keeping the profile of disabled lawyers and their needs high on the Law Society agenda. He was chair of the LDD for over seven years, retiring in December 2014. He also continues to work with the LDD’s younger members and assists with obtaining work placements and providing other opportunities for our members.
