Guidance for best practice
The Junior Lawyers Division of the Law Society of England and Wales (JLD) publishes guidance for employers on the best practice for supporting wellbeing and resilience in the workplace.
In early 2017, the JLD undertook a survey of its members to obtain data on the resilience and wellbeing of junior lawyers.
The survey found that more than 90% of respondents had experienced stress in their role with 26% saying they experience severe / extreme levels of stress. In addition, more than 25% of respondents stated that they had suffered with a mental health problem in the last month (whether formally diagnosed or not) with only 23% telling their employer about it.
The guidance also includes a storyboard which provides practical steps on how best to approach wellbeing conversations with employees.
This guidance has been designed for managers, L&D, D&I and HR professionals. While the guidance has been prepared as a result of the findings from the JLD survey, the contents of the guidance are equally applicable for senior lawyers and partners, as well as business services support staff. The guidance is also transferable across a range of industry sectors.
The guidance can be viewed below.
Thank you to everyone who completed our 2018 resilience and wellbeing survey. We will share the results after analysis.
