Last year the Junior Lawyers Division (JLD) undertook a survey of its membership to gather information on the resilience and wellbeing of junior lawyers in England and Wales. In summary, more than 90 per cent of respondents stated that they had experienced stress in their role, with 26 per cent of those respondents experiencing severe/extreme levels of stress.
The JLD is running the survey again this year so that it can monitor and compare statistics.
The JLD is concerned about the high levels of stress and the number of individuals experiencing mental health problems in the profession. In last year’s survey more than 25 per cent of respondents stated that they had experienced a mental health problem in the last month (whether formally diagnosed or not).
In early 2018, the JLD is releasing guidance for employers on best practice to support junior lawyers (and, in fact, all employees) in their organisation. If you are a JLD member, please take this year’s survey which should take no more than five minutes to complete.
