Are you a junior lawyer looking for a new challenge? Are you interested in issues that affect you and other members of the legal profession like you? Could you represent over 70,000 LPC students, LPC graduates, trainees and junior solicitors from across England and Wales in a national and international forum? Do you want to make a difference to the future of the legal profession?

If the answers are yes to the above then you could be a part of it by standing for a position on the executive committee of the Junior Lawyers Division of the Law Society or for a position on the national committee as a student representative. There are up to eight positions available.

Do you want to stand? What should you do?

Read the guidance notes for either the executive committee or student representative positions. The guidance notes contain further information including the role of a JLD executive committee or national committee member, eligibility criteria, tasks and responsibilities and the election process. Back this up by reading our FAQs which may be of additional assistance. Once you have decided, download the nomination form.

You need to submit your nomination by Wednesday 18 October 2017 at 12:00pm which must be supported by two other junior lawyers. Your nominations should include an election statement of up to 300 words explaining why you are right for the role of JLD executive committee member. You will also need to confirm whether you are available to attend a JLD committee training weekend from 11-12 November in London.

The relevant documents are:

To be eligible to stand you must fall within the scope of the JLD membership (i.e. student on the Legal Practice Course (LPC), LPC graduate, trainee solicitor or solicitor up to five years qualified).

Nominations will be considered and voted upon by the JLD national committee comprising the current executive committee members and representatives of the local JLD group network.
