The Junior Lawyers Division is proud to announce that we have chosen Mind as our charity of the year for 2019.
Mind provides vital services, including treatment and support, for anyone suffering from or supporting someone with a mental health problem throughout England and Wales.
Over the past few years the JLD has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the importance of resilience and wellbeing in the legal profession.
Our 2018 resilience and wellbeing survey indicated that 82 per cent of junior lawyer respondents had experienced negative stress in the last month, with 26 per cent of those experiencing severe or extreme levels of stress.
Almost two-fifths of junior lawyer respondents (38 per cent) reported experiencing a mental health problem (whether formally diagnosed or not) in the last month.
These statistics are concerning, and we are therefore doing everything in our power to encourage the profession to pay attention to ensuring better working conditions and practices for junior lawyers.
It was for this reason the JLD launched best practice guidance for law firms in February 2018. Too many junior lawyers understand the impact of mental ill-health and so we want to support a charity that is accessible to anyone who is suffering in this way.
We invite you to join us and support this great organisation by keeping an eye out for activities you can get involved in.
At the JLD annual conference and ball on 6 April 2019, there will be a charity raffle to fundraise for Mind. If you would like to donate a raffle prize, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org .
