Leeds Junior Lawyers Division

Catchment area: Leeds

The Leeds JLD provides social, educational, professional development, training and networking events to junior and aspiring lawyers and barristers in and around Leeds. Social and careers events are organised for members on a regular basis.

There is a membership fee payable (reduced rate available for those joining mid-year), which entitles members to free or reduced entrance to events. It also allows members access to updates, newsletters and information about the Committee’s plans during the year.

Leeds JLD communicates with its members through monthly newsletters, regular event emails, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin and the regional legal press.

The group is part of the National JLD. One dedicated Committee member sits on the National Committee and, for 2017-18, there will also be additional representation via the National JLD Executive.

Leeds JLD is closely linked with Leeds Law Society, with a dedicated Committee member responsible for LLS liaison and close collaboration between the two organisations in terms of event-planning and use of shared resources.

The group has a Committee made up of 16 individuals with current positions including Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Sponsorship, Events, Publicity, Sport, In-House Representative, FELT Representative, National Representative, Barrister Representative, and Leeds Law Society Liaison Officer.

The Committee term runs across an academic year, from September to August.  Nominations for elections to the Committee usually commence late July / early August, with the new Committee announced at the end of August.
