Azerbaijan becomes a recognised QLTS jurisdiction

The Solicitors Regulation Authority has added Azerbaijan to its list of recognised jurisdictions. Lawyers qualified in Azerbaijan will now be eligible for the Qualified Lawyer Transfer Scheme (QLTS) to become a solicitor in England and Wales.

UK law firms now able to remain in South Korea once the UK exits the EU

On Monday, the Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox signed a continuity Free Trade Agreement with Korea that will allow English and Welsh solicitors to continue to practise in Korea. This is welcome relief for the profession and more specifically for the four U.K. firms established there under an EU licence to be able to remain in Seoul post-Brexit.

Today, the Law Society of England & Wales, the Bar Human Rights Committee of England & Wales, the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute, Fair Trials, the Defence Extradition Lawyer’s Forum, and the International Forum of Extradition Specialists issued joint observations on the human rights implications of the proposed amendments to the Fugitive Offenders and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters legislation.
