On 28 September 2017, the Law Society had a meeting with the Seoul Bar Association (SBA). Seoul is the capital of South Korea.
Vice-President Christina Blacklaws and the SBA President, Lee Chan-hee discussed areas of mutual interest.
The Law Society raised members’ practice rights in South Korea post-Brexit, which are currently guaranteed by the EU-South Korea Free Trade Agreement. The SBA President agreed to give his full support to English law firms that wanted to remain in South Korea during the transitional period after leaving the EU.
SBA is a local bar association, but has 17,000 members, which is roughly three quarters of all lawyers in South Korea (23,000).
